Frequently Asked Questions on Car Rental

Do you have questions about car rental? On this page, we’ve collected our most frequently occurring questions plus answers for you. Since we’ve been around for 60+ years there are quite a few, so we placed them into three categories: before, during and after your car rental.

Before your car rental

To rent a car, you need the following: 1. A valid ID: an ID card or passport; 2. A valid driver’s license; and 3. A credit card with an expiration date of at least 3 months after the retour date of your rental car.

The minimum age to rent a car with Enterprise is 18 years old. A few car classes do have an age limit of 25. We’ve set up our booking tool in a way where you simply get to see the rental cars available within your age category.

We ask our customers to have a valid driver’s license, which at the first day of rental must have been in your possession for at least a year. If your driver’s license isn’t written in Roman letters, an international driver’s license is needed for verification. The international driver’s license needs to be brought alongside your regular driver’s license.

A deposit is required for every rental car. When filling in the rental agreement, we’ll ask for a valid credit card; we will reserve the amount on your credit card. The amount varies depending on the car category. If you’d like to know how much the deposit will be beforehand, we kindly advise contacting the location where you’d like to pick up your rental car.

With Enterprise Rent-A-Car, you get the following insurances without any additional charges: Damage Waiver, Third party insurance and Theft Protection. As you’re booking your car, you’ll find more information regarding what exactly the insurances will cover. You will also be able to add additional insurances during the booking process.

With Enterprise Rent-A-Car, you’ll never be surprised by unforeseen costs. All applicable costs and the reason for why they’re charged will be clearly listed during the booking process. If anything is unclear, please feel free to contact us.

With Enterprise Rent-A-Car in the Netherlands, payments can be made with all non-prepaid credit cards from Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Diners Club. The credit card must be in your name.

Returning your car outside of opening hours is easy and free of charge. You park on our parking lot, lock your car and leave the key behind in the dropbox. Picking up your rental car outside of opening hours is also possible; for this option, please contact the location where you’d like to pick up your car. Additional costs do apply.

Yes! When you’re picking up your rental car, you can let us know at the counter that you’d like to add an additional driver, show their driver’s license as well and you’re all set. The costs of an additional driver are €4,- a day + 21% VAT (€4,84 in total).

You can indeed bring back your rental car to different locations. When you’re booking your car, you can easily select a different return location. During the booking process you’ll also be able to see if any additional costs apply. Did you already book your rental car? Both the return- and pick-up locations of existing bookings can be adjusted online.

You can easily adjust or cancel your booking online. Please note: changing your booking can lead to a difference in total costs; always check for a potential new amount before you click agree. If you’re already on the road with your rental car and you’d like to change your booking, you can always contact the location where you picked up your car.

Always add contact- and flight details to your booking; in case of delay, this allows us to reach out to you and discuss staying open for you. The first 30 minutes of keeping our doors open for you is entirely free of charge.

Picking up the rental car for someone else is possible, if the person picking up the car rents the car in their name and then adds the initial individual as the additional driver. This is due to the fact that driver’s license, credit card, identification and rental contract must be under one name.

Yes, you can! While you’re booking, you can see all the extra options that are applicable to the rental car you selected. For the booster seats we kindly advise to contact the pick-up location, so you can let our colleagues know what size you need.

At Enterprise Rent-A-Car, we offer all-season tires. If you’d like to use them, you can contact the location where you’re picking up your rental car. Would you like to know more about whether or not you’ll be needing winter tires during your trip outside of the Netherlands? In that case we kindly advise contacting the concerning location in the relevant country; they are best suited to help with these kinds of matters.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car is pet-friendly: you can bring your pet with you in your rental car. We do advise keeping your pet in their carrier and bringing back the car without hair and bitemarks on the interior, to avoid any repair- or cleaning costs.

If you’re planning a trip to France in your rental car, then you’ve probably heard about them: the low emission zones and the accompanying low emission zone stickers. We've looked into it for you, and this is how to get one of those stickers for your rental car.

As soon as you pick up your car, you’ll know the license plate number. With this number, you can purchase the sticker online via the following link: https://certificat-air.gouv.fr/en/demande-ext/cgu. Proof of payment of this sticker, combined with the rental agreement, is sufficient for when you are checked.

Furthermore, you don’t have to worry about which car to book: all rental cars in our fleet meet the emission standards of the low emission zones.

During your car rental

Besides Holland, you can drive in the following countries without additional cost: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France (mainland), Germany, Italy (mainland), Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, San Marino, Spain (mainland), Sweden, Switzerland, Great Britain and the Vatican.

If you want to go to the Czech Republic, Croatia, Poland, Slovakia or Slovenia, permission is required and additional costs apply (€5,- a day + 21% VAT (€6,05 in total)). Additionally, this is only possible for certain cars. We kindly advise to contact your pick-up location for more information.

If you’d like to keep your rental car for longer, you can contact your pick-up location.

At Enterprise Rent-A-Car, you get your car rental costs back when you return your car at an earlier date: you only pay for the period you’ve actually used your car. One day in car rental means 24 hours. Therefore, when the return date and time is the 22nd of August at 22:00PM, and you bring back your car on the 19th of August before 22:00PM, you’d get three days of car rental costs back. However, please note that this is only applicable when you book directly through Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

Good news: if you’re late, you always have around 30 extra minutes. If the pre-arranged time of return is 10:00AM, then you can still bring your car back until 10:30AM. After that, new rates start to apply. We do always kindly advise to contact us when you suspect you’ll be later.

Yep: the tank is full when you come to pick up your car, and we ask to bring it back with a full tank as well. Of course, you can also let us do it for you; this would cost €2,75 per liter (VAT excluded).

After your car rental

The invoice is automatically sent to the e-mail address you provided. You can also ask our colleagues at your return location to print it out. Have you lost your invoice? Then we kindly advise to contact the location where you picked up your rental car.

The fine comes to us first. Depending on the fine, there are two possible routes:
1. We inform you about the fine via e-mail, sending the invoice along with the e-mail. The fine + administration fee (€25 + 21% VAT, €30,25 in total) will be deducted from your credit card.

2. We inform you about the fine via e-mail. You receive the fine yourself from the organization who writes the fines. The administration fee (€25 + 21% VAT, €30,25 in total) will be deducted from your credit card.

Should you receive an e-mail about a fine or has an amount been deducted and you have any questions at all, of course we would be happy to help. Please feel free to contact us.

We kindly advise to contact the location where you returned your rental car; to be able to help you as soon as possible, we handle Lost & Found on a local level.

Of course, we are not going to let you pay for regular wear and tear. That’s why we use a Damage Evaluator Tool: a card that we can place on the rental car to determine whether something is damage of wear. Is something smaller than the indicated circles on the Damage Evaluator Tool, then it’s simply regular wear and tear.
